When I was a kid my parents would let me and my sister get a Shirley Temple at a special occasion like a wedding or birthday and occasionally when we went out for dinner; it was always such a special treat and brings back great memories! My kids had a Shirley Temple for the first time when we recently went to a wedding, they loved them but I think what they really liked was the cherry!
For birthdays I always make homemade ice cream. I had grenadine in the cabinet and thought what could I make with this? I had an idea, Shirley Temple Ice Cream!
What’s in a Shirley Temple? Ginger ale, a splash of grenadine and a maraschino cherry. Just three simple ingredients.
To make the ice cream I had to experiment in order to get just the right amount of ginger ale and grenadine. After some taste tests I think I got it!
What’s great about this ice cream is it is a little fizzy because of the carbonation from the ginger ale. It’s also a little bit addictive.
I hope you like it and it brings back memories for you.
