It seems when I get up early, like extra early because I really want to get something done before the kids wake up, it never happens. I get up, but so does my youngest. I don’t know what it is but he has some kind of radar and can sense when I’m up. It’s frustrating because I am no longer starting my day as I planned.
The plan to get up early is so I can do some of my things and then I have more time with my kids the rest of the day without my long to do list looming over my head. I have to remember the bible verse from Proverbs 19:21 “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
Summer also throws a wrench in my planning. They are lazy days and often unstructured. I am working on bringing the structure back.
It’s a little overwhelming when I think of what my morning routine should be. Bible reading, laundry, working out, showering, reading a good book and planning my day and… and… and… I was about ready to just throw in the towel. There’s no way I could do all of those “important” things during the few (if any!) quiet moments I have in those morning hours.
I need simple!
A simple way to get in the Word every morning without debating which study to use.
A simple way to focus on my priorities before the day begins.
A simple way to make a little progress on my wellness journey each day, even if I didn’t get in a full workout.
I was looking for one resource where I could make all of these things happen, and actually stick with a morning routine that would give me what I need to greet my family with joy each morning.
I thought you might want something like that, too.
Here it is!
The Simple Start Journal: A morning journal for busy women.
I’m so excited to share this journal with you, because I have used it and IT WORKS. The Simple Start Journal is a step-by-step guide to take you through reading & writing Scripture, setting priorities, and completing a short workout, every single weekday.
This journal was created by Kayse Pratt, founder of IntentionalMoms.com. She gets what it’s like to be an overwhelmed momma. She is one! And that’s exactly why she created this journal for us – because she knew firsthand that we all needed a simple, straightforward resource to help us do the things that matter most each morning.

What is it?
The Simple Start Journal is a morning journal for busy women. It’s the simple, straightforward resource you need to be able to do the things that matter most each morning.
Every day, you’ll find a section for:
- Getting in the Word: There is a specific passage of Scripture to read (with room for notes), a few key verses from that passage to write out, and a space to jot down your prayers. (This first journal takes us through Galatians and Ephesians.)
- Getting focused on your priorities: You’ve given a question to answer & space to note your three most important tasks of the day.
- Getting a short workout in: You’re given a short, simple workout to complete each day. All you need is your body and a small space. There’s a different workout for each weekday!
Instead of juggling a basketful of tools, The Simple Start Journal is one comprehensive resource that covers all areas of a simple morning routine: reading & writing Scripture, setting priorities, and completing a short workout, every single weekday!
